The Ten-cent Prexie
Customs clearance fee
The fee for clearance of customs was ten cents from May 1, 1931 until May 14, 1957.
Although the payment of a customs clearance fee was usually accounted for using a postage due stamp, in some cases a regular postage stamp was used instead. This 1950 registered letter from London was examined at customs and the ten cent fee was paid using a ten-cent Prexie.
