The Twelve-cent Prexie

Fourth class use - multiple pound rates

There were a number of multiple pound Zone and time combinations that cost twelve cents.

The mailing tube was sent to Zone 3, and the twelve cent rate would have been correct at nine cents for the first pound, two cents for second pound or fraction thereof, and a one-cent minimum surcharge effective from March 26, 1944 to January 1, 1949.

This mailing tag was attached to a shipment of plants to Zone 3, and would have had the same rate breakdown for the same period as the mailing tube above.

The fourth class book rate was three cents per pound from July 1, 1942 until January 1, 1949. This label is from a shipment of books weighing from three to four pounds from APO 201, Japan, to Michigan in 1948.
