The One-and-one-half-cent Prexie
Third class book and catalog use
The third class book and catalog rate was one-and-one-half cents per ounce from January 1, 1949 until January 1, 1952. As of January 1, 1952 the rate was one-and-one-half cents per two ounces and each successive ounce for non-profit mailers and two cents for the first two ounces for general mailers. If the item was over eight ounces it was sent fourth class.
This cover must have contained a pamphlet or small catalog. It qualified for the book rate, as the full third class rate in 1951 would have been two cents.
