The Twenty-two-cent Prexie

Registered extra indemnity use

This cover mailed by the Economist Stamp Company in 1939 was registered with an excess declared value. A note inside indicates a value of $240, so a logical combination of postage and fees would have been three cents postage, fifteen cents for registry up to $5, and four cents excess declared value from $200.01 to $400.

A similar charge would have resulted if the registry had been declared at $25.01 to $50 for eighteen cents and an extra one cent would have been paid for an excess declared value up to $50, but that does not seem to fit the case here.
