The Thirty-cent Prexie

Registered use on free mail

Thirty cents was the minimum registry fee from January 1, 1952 until June 7, 1955. Penalty mail sent outside Washington, DC required payment for registration.

A cover sent free by the Navy Department Headquarters at Great Lakes, Illinois in 1954. The registry fee was paid by a thirty-cent Prexie.

The same rules applied for penalty mail sent from a territory. This registered cover was sent from the Marianas in 1954.
