The Thirty-cent Prexie

Local, restricted delivery, registered, return receipt

From July 9, 1934 until March 25, 1944 the sum of the rates for local delivery (two cents,) minimum value registration (fifteen cents,) return receipt (three cents) and restricted delivery (ten cents) added to thirty cents.

That improbable combination is present on this cover sent within Newberryport, MA in 1941. The letter inside is apparently from a man to his wife, asking her to come live with him. It doesn't appear that she ever picked it up, as notices were still being left two weeks later.
