The Nine-cent Prexie

Multiple of fourth class library rate

The fourth class library rate was three cents for the first pound and one cent for each additional pound from July 1, 1928 until January 1, 1949. Then the rate for the first pound became four cents, until January 7, 1968. As of July 28, 1953, materials that could be sent at library rates now included 16 mm films, film strips, transparencies, slides, microfilm, sound recordings and catalogs of such material, as well as library books, when sent to and from schools, colleges, universities, public libraries, and various non-profit organizations.

This is a mailing card for a can of film weighing between five and six pounds returning educational materials to the Alaska Department of Health in 1956.
