The Nine-cent Prexie

Fourth class use, Zone 3

The fourth class parcel post rate was nine cents for the first pound sent to Zone 3 (150 - 300 mile radius) from October 1, 1932 until January 1, 1949. However, a 3% surcharge with a minimum of one cent was in effect from March 26, 1944 to January 1, 1949.

This portion of a wrapper comes from a package sent to Bradenton Beach from Miami, a Zone 3 distance. A pencil notation suggests it was mailed in 1942, which would be consistent with the nine-cent rate.
